OTRS - "Believe In Yourself"

Hi, everyone. This month at Off The Rails Scrapbooking, we are playing with watercolors and a mood board.

"Watercolors"

And our sponsor this month is Memory Maze.

Here's what I have made:

"Believe In Yourself"

"Believe In Yourself"

Made this wall decor piece. I sketch the flowers out and watercolor them on watercolor paper. Ink the sides with distress ink. Flicked some watercolors on it. Adhered to a chipboard base and a pattern paper. Then added Prima flowers, dome dots and half pearls. For the chipboard title I gesso it and added bronze glitter. Added glitter to the flowers too.

Watercoloring

Hi, everyone. It's been some time since I blog about my watercoloring projects. Though I have not blog, I still watercolor occasionally. Here's what I have watercolor.

Floral1

Inspired by my friend, I drew and watercolor this set of roses from scratch. But I think I made a mistake in the bunch of leaves at the bottom. LOL.

Floral2

My second set of watercolor floral is done on stamped image. The flowers and leaves are from 2 different stamp sets. I stamped them with distress ink so they are more subtle.

Penang Cornwallis Chapel

I sketch this chapel in Fort Cornwallis, Penang in June. But I only watercolor it recently. Good thing I took a picture of the chapel. Not 100% alike but I guess it will do for now. My first "urban sketching" piece. I hope to learn about urban sketching and join the local urban sketchers group. A goal I set and hope to achieve before I grow too old to walk. LOL.

I have more watercoloring projects to share with you. Recently I started a bible verses watercoloring journal. One page will be the picture I watercolor with the verses and behind the page will be my own bible study notes. Hoping this will help me better in studying the word of God and at same time hone my watercoloring skills. But again I hope not to put too much pressure on myself. So it will be ad hoc sharing as and when I'm done with a piece. Please bear with me if you are not a believer. I'm only going to share about the watercolor piece and not the study notes. :)

Oh.. Have I shared that lately I dive into the calligraphy world? Yap.. I learnt the foundational hand writing in secondary school. Recently I attended a modern calligraphy class with my dear friend. And I started writing and practising. Will share more in next post.

Thanks for dropping by. Hope I didn't bore anyone down. Have fun.

Day 20 - {Imagine} Watercolor

Hi, it's been a few days since I watercolor. Been quite busy this weekend. Plus something tragic happened for Singapore. The Sabah earthquake had claimed the lives of 6 Singaporean primary school kids and 1 teacher. 1 kid and 1 teacher are still missing. As a mum of 2 kids, this really weigh heavily on my heart. It's so heartpain. I pray that God will heal and comfort those who lost their loved ones and also heal those who are injured.

Yesterday I sketch this elf out with pencil and watercolor it. But I sort of spoil the sketch with my watercolor. Sketch is the same but the way I add the toning really can reshape the face. LOL. The nose looks flat and funny. Eyes seems to be narrower. Gosh... Really so tough to do portrait. I think I will stick to sketching with pencil and learn the toning and shading with pencil first. Till I master the skill, I think I won't do portrait for watercolor yet. So gambatte!!!

I like this sketch. Not perfect yet. But I like it.

This is the first coat of color for the skin.

Final product. Sob.. spoil it. You can see the face shape sort of change after I add shading/toning.  Gosh.. Now looks flat and thin face. And flat nose. Like after a botched cosmetic surgery. LOL..

Really not easy to do portrait. But I won't give up. Will continue learning and trying. Step by step.. first with pencil.

That's all for today's sharing. I will be "missing in action" for the next one week or so. Going to church camp and a short holiday in Penang. Look forward to the trip. I will bring along my sketchbook and watercolor kit. Hopefully I got time to create and able to blog about it when I come back.

Oh ya, forgot about another sketch I did in the weekend. This is a quick and rough sketch I did. Want to learn how to sketch quickly. Done this in my Moleskine sketchbook.

Hope you enjoy my sharing. So see you next week when I'm back from the trip. Have a fun week.

Thanks for dropping by.

Day 18 - {Delight In The Little Things} Watercolor

Hi, everyone. Had a wonderful day today. Went out with kids to buy bible study materials and I found a book that I adore in Popular Bookstore at Bras Basah Complex. Gosh... thank you God. You know what I truly love. In the midst of sourcing for bible study materials, God blessed me with another book on watercoloring.

It's a book on watercolor fairy art. Gosh.. love... In the book, there's many beautiful artworks and tips on how to draw and watercolor fairies. I want to try!!!! But I think I need some time to learn how to sketch the fairies and the background out before I can do any watercoloring.

To slow things down for myself without putting too much challenge, I decided to start with mini backgrounds. LOL.. So today I watercolor mushrooms. The butterflies in the picture are stamped out then watercolored. I made a stamping mistake in the cluster of tiny butterflies. Press down too hard and the details are smudged. Gosh....

{Delight In The Little Things}

Again I drew the outline of the mushroom clusters with a light coat of brown watercolor before adding darker tone and the colors. Then I drew the leaves and the shadows and grass patch. Love mushrooms!! It's one of my top favourite icons. Hee..

And now I want to share the cover of this Watercolor Fairy Art book with you. Here it is. Aren't the pictures beautiful and oh so tempting... can't blame me for getting it without thinking. LOL.

Watercolor Fairy Art Book

The author drew out this fairies in pencil before she watercolor. It's not stamped out. Wow, right. I want to learn and draw. LOL.. hope it's not too great a challenge. I definitely need time to learn. So in the meantime, do lookout for more mini watercolor fairy/mystical backgrounds.

Have fun. Thanks for dropping by.

Day 12 - {Owl} Watercolor

Hi, it's day 12 of "One Watercolor A Day". Today I didn't really have a theme. Last night I had a urge to sketch. Took out all my drawings, have a look at them and wonder how long it have been since I sketched. So this morning, I packed my sketchbook and pencil and sketch some owls at Mcdonald's again.

I managed to sketch 3 simple owls(the last 3 owls). The rest of the owls I done some months back. All the owls are inspired by pictures I found at Pinterest.

Owl Sketches

So tonight I decided to challenge myself to watercolor the last owl. I loved this owl because it look so cute.

{Owl} Watercolor

{Owl} Watercolor

Many people told me that owl is a night creature and as a child of God, I should'nt like it. But to me, its just a amazing creature that God created. Who says God only create day creatures?? So I'm always puzzled about this reasoning.

I hope you like my watercolor owl and owl sketch. Now time to head to bed. It's way pass midnight at Singapore. So I better stop being an owl and go sleep. LOL..

Have fun. Thanks for dropping by.

Acrylic Painting Class

Hi hi!!! Recently I attended a acrylic painting class at a local art studio. Its a fun class yet abit stressful... ha ha... because its the first time that I'm painting a big canvas, 18 inch by 24 inch!! So after each session, my arms ache!!! Oh my!! Sign of not enough exercise!!!

Here's the first painting that I have done. Took me a few lessons to get it done!!! Alot of texturing to do on the cliffs and rocks. I'm not very happy with the clouds though. Might amend abit!!!

My acrylic seascape painting

Below is the actual photo that I'm "copying"!!!

My acrylic seascape painting

These cliffs took me 1.5 lessons to get it done and that's 3.75 hours!!! oh my!!! I'm too slow!!

My acrylic seascape painting

This rock is my favourite!! Hee!!!

For my next painting, I think I want to paint a landscape of autumn forest!! I loved trees and the autumn colours are just too pretty and invokes peace and tranquility in me. Just hope that while painting, I can be at peace and not get stressed out by the details!!! ha ha...

Thanks for visiting. Have a fun week!!
